Find 2021 census data on which country people were born in by constituency
This dashboard presents census data for constituencies on residents’ country of birth.
The most recent census was carried out in March 2021 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and in March 2022 in Scotland. This dashboard shows the results for constituencies across the UK.
For comparison, we have calculated UK averages for broad groups of countries (the UK, the European Union and the rest of the world) using 2021 data for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and 2022 data for Scotland. These figures are for comparative purposes, and don’t tell us about the population on a particular date.

Country of birth is different from nationality or residence.
In the census questionnaire, people were asked which country they were born in. Those who were not born in the UK were then asked to write in the current name of their country of birth.
EU member countries are as follows:
Scotland’s census data also groups together some countries that are in the process of applying to join the EU. These are labelled “Countries applying to join the EU (March 2022)”. The countries are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine and North Macedonia.

This dashboard uses census data. The 2021 and 2022 censuses are currently the only source of constituency-level data on this topic, which means that there aren’t any updates planned for the near future.
