In Q4 2024, UK GDP grew by 0.1% compared with the previous quarter (Q3 2024), following no growth (0.0%) in Q3. GDP in the Eurozone was up by 0.2% in Q4 2024, while US GDP rose by 0.6% over the quarter.
UK GDP in Q4 2024 was 3.2% above its pre-pandemic level of Q4 2019. This compares with Eurozone GDP being 4.9% higher, with GDP in Germany 0.1% lower. The US had the highest GDP growth among G7 economies over this period at 12.2%.
On 17 March, the OECD published new forecasts for the world economy. The OECD noted that significant changes in trade policies, referring mostly to US tariffs, could hit global growth if sustained. It also observed that inflationary pressures continue to linger. The OECD lowered its forecast for UK GDP growth in 2025 from 1.7% to 1.4%.
On 17 January, the IMF published new forecasts for the world economy. The IMF projected “steady” global growth of 3.3%, with an upgrade to the US forecast offset by downgrades to other economies. The IMF lifted its forecast for UK GDP growth in 2025 from 1.5% to 1.6%, while leaving its 2026 forecast unchanged at 1.5%.
