The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or not in work and claiming Universal Credit decreased by 6,500 between March and April 2015, to 799,400.
The unemployment rate was 5.5% in January-March 2015. The ILO measure of unemployment was 1.83 million people, down 35,000 from the previous quarter and down 386,000 from the previous year.
The number of people in employment was 31.10 million in January-March 2015, up 202,000 from the previous quarter and up 564,000 from the previous year. The employment rate was 73.5%. This is the highest level and rate since comparable records began in 1971.
