The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or not in work and claiming Universal Credit increased by 7,000 between May and June 2015, to 804,200. This is the first monthly increase since October 2012.
The unemployment rate was 5.6% in March-May 2015. The ILO measure of unemployment was 1.85 million people, up 15,000 on the previous quarter, this is the first quarterly increase since January to March 2013. Unemployment is down 273,000 on the previous year.
The number of people in employment was 30.98 million in March-May 2015, down 67,000 on the previous quarter, this is the first quarterly fall since February to April 2013. However, employment is up 265,000 on the previous year. The employment rate was 73.3%.
