  • The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or not in work and claiming Universal Credit was 759,100 in June 2016, little changed from May.
  • The unemployment rate was 4.9% in March-May 2016. The ILO measure of unemployment was 1.65 million people, 54,000 fewer than the previous quarter and 201,000 fewer than the year before.
  • The number of people in employment was 31.70 million in March-May 2016, up 176,000 from the previous quarter and 624,000 more than the year before. The employment rate was 74.4%, the highest since comparable records began in 1971. 
  • Average weekly total pay in Great Britain increased by 2.3% in the three months to May 2016 compared with the previous year. Regular pay (excluding bonuses) grew by 2.2%. CPI inflation averaged 0.4% over this period.
