- The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or claiming Universal Credit and required to seek work was 763,600 in July 2016, down 8,600 from June.
- The unemployment rate was 4.9% in April-June 2016. The ILO measure of unemployment was 1.64 million people, 52,000 fewer than the previous quarter and 207,000 fewer than the year before.
- The number of people in employment was 31.75 million in April-June 2016, up 172,000 from the previous quarter and 606,000 more than the year before. The employment rate was 74.5%, the highest since comparable records began in 1971.
- Average weekly total pay in Great Britain increased by 2.4% in the three months to June 2016 compared with the previous year. Regular pay (excluding bonuses) grew by 2.3%. CPI inflation averaged 0.3% over this period.
