The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or claiming Universal Credit and required to seek work was 809,000 in November 2016, 2,400 more than in October.
The unemployment rate was 4.8% in August-October 2016. The ILO measure of unemployment was 1.62 million people, 16,000 fewer than the previous quarter and 103,000 fewer than the year before.
The number of people in employment was 31.76 million in August-October 2016, slightly lower than the previous quarter but 342,000 more than the year before. The employment rate was 74.4%.
Average weekly total pay in Great Britain increased by 2.5% in the three months to October 2016 compared with the previous year. Regular pay (excluding bonuses) grew by 2.6%. CPI inflation averaged 0.8% over this period.
