The unemployment rate was 4.7% in December 2016-February 2017. The ILO measure of unemployment was 1.56 million people, 45,000 fewer than the previous quarter and 141,000 fewer than the year before.

The number of people in employment was 31.84 million in December 2016-February 2017, 39,000 more than the previous quarter and 312,000 more than the year before. The employment rate was 74.6%, the joint highest since comparable records began in 1971. 

Average weekly total pay in Great Britain increased by 2.3% in the three months to February 2017 compared with the previous year. Regular pay (excluding bonuses) grew by 2.2%. CPI inflation averaged 1.9% over this period.
