Suicide prevention: online platforms, print media and broadcasting
Ofcom enforces measures in the Online Safety Act to protect web users from suicide or self-harm content. It also regulates broadcast media, but not the press.

Media plurality is often claimed to be important for a well-functioning democratic society: if there is sufficient media plurality, citizens have the opportunity to be informed through access to a diversity of viewpoints. Inaddition, media owners do not have have too much influence over the political process.
Concerns have been raised about media in Wales. In October 2013, Ofcom’s Advisory Committee for Wales warned that the risk posed by a lack of plurality were “of pressing importance” and that it was essential that public service broadcastersand the print media “provide news and current affairsservices covering the whole of the Wales which can hold democratic government in Wales to account”.

Changes in TV viewing habits since the licence fee was established, such as the rise of on-demand streaming, have led some to challenge the BBC's funding model.
The government launched a review into the BBC's funding model in 2023. Its findings will inform the review of the BBC's Royal Charter, which expires in 2027.
