The debate will be led by Mark Field. Mr Field is one of the founding members of the newly established All Party Parliamentary Group on Almshouses. The APPG held its first meeting on 14 September 2016.
Almshouses are charitable organisations, some of which are also Registered Social landlords. They mainly specialise in housing for the elderly.
Providers of supported housing have made representations to the Government over the intention to cap Housing Benefit entitlement for residents at Local Housing Allowance rates and the requirement to reduce their rent levels by 1% in each year for four years from April 2016. These matters have also caused concern amongst the almshouse community.
This pack provides information on some of the key issues facing almshouses.
