On 20 March 2018 there will be a debate in Westminster Hall on investment in local infrastructure to secure new homes in the East Midlands. The debate is sponsored by Lee Rowley MP.

14,790 homes were completed in the East Midlands in 2016/17, a rate of 7.4 homes for every 1,000 households in the region. This is the second-highest rate per thousand households after the South West.
The East Midlands typically receives less capital spending per person than the UK average on functions related to housing infrastructure. There are some exceptions – for example, in 2016-17 capital spending on the police in the East Midlands was well over twice the UK average – and spending also varies considerably from year to year.
As of autumn 2017, the National Infrastructure and Construction Pipeline contains 36 infrastructure projects which are currently planned to take place in the East Midlands, totalling £3.6 billion of public money. Half of these are transport projects.
£55 million of the Government’s initial allocation from its Housing Infrastructure Fund has gone to local authorities in the East Midlands. Other sources of funding are available, including the Local Growth Fund and the Home Building Fund.
