There will be a 30-minute debate on local housing allowance (LHA) rates for homeless young people in Westminster Hall at 4pm on 4 February 2020, led by Caroline Lucas MP.
The Library published a debate pack on Local housing allowance and homelessness in July 2019. This provides a brief overview of the LHA, Government policy, sector comment, and relevant Library Briefings.
In January 2020, the UK Government announced in a written statement that from April 2020 LHA rates will be increased in line with the Consumer Price Index, ending the freeze to the LHA. Additional information was published on the Department for Work and Pensions website.
Crisis and Shelter published responses to the decision, as did the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Residential Landlords Association and the Local Government Association.
