Jo Cox was MP for Batley and Spen from the June 2015 General Election until she was murdered during the European Union Referendum campaign, on 16 June 2016.
Following her death, tributes were paid in both House of Commons and the House of Lords on 20 June 2016. Since the beginning of the current Parliament until the summer recess, Members, in both Houses, have mentioned Jo Cox on 129 occasions.
The Jo Cox Foundation was established in 2016 by her friends and family. It exists “to build a positive legacy for Jo and to create something positive from the tragedy that was her murder”. It supports different ways of bringing people together, promotes civility in politics and aims to inspire humanitarian and campaigning work to support vulnerable people across the world.
