The fishing industry fleet is classified according to size: 10 metres and under in length (u-10m) and over 10 metres. Data is provided using these categories. Generally, u-10m vessels tend to fish closer to shore.
At the end of 2020 there were 4,547 vessels of 10m and under in the UK fishing fleet. This number fell by 213 between 2018 and 2020. 51% of these vessels were registered in ports in England, 35% in Scotland, 8% Wales and 4% in Northern Ireland.[1]
