Jagtar Singh Johal is a British citizen of the Sikh faith, from Dumbarton in Scotland. This timeline details his arrest and the subsequent developments in the case.
Mr Johal has yet to face trial.
The Government of India denies the allegations of physical and mental torture as “baseless and false”.
On 10 January 2023, the UK Government stated that it “has consistently raised Mr Johal’s case with the Government of India, and is committed to doing what it can to assist him.”
