A Westminster Hall debate on the regulatory powers over billing of energy supply to businesses is scheduled to take place on 1 July 2025. The subject has been chosen by the Back Bench Business Committee and the debate will be opened by Sarah Edwards MP.

In 2023, the non-domestic energy sector was responsible for 31% of total final consumption of energy in the UK, and industry spent a total of £20.3 billion on energy.

While the supply of energy to business is through the same system of cables and, often, suppliers as the domestic energy system it differs, in its contracts and regulation. Ofgem identified issues have been raised by non-domestic energy customers with the current system, including poor customer support particularly for small businesses, excessively long lead times for businesses when changing address, and that some third-party intermediaries are not providing sufficient and proper support to businesses.

Recent changes have strengthened the regulations around energy suppliers to non-domestic customers to improve transparency and allow for an improved complaints system to alleviate issues raised with Ofgem by businesses.
