Unemployment by Constituency, September 2011 (4 MB, PDF)
The latest data show:
• The number of people aged 18 or over claiming Jobseekers Allowance increased by 20,300 between July and August 2011 to 1.58 million people.
• The wider ILO measure of unemployment was 2.51 million in May-July 2011, a rise of 80,000 from the last quarter, the largest increase since summer 2009.
• In May-July 2011, 973,000 people aged 16-24 were unemployed, an increase of 78,000 on the previous quarter. The unemployment rate for those aged 16-24 is 20.8%, the highest it has been since comparable figures began in 1992.
• Employment in the public sector decreased by 111,000 on the previous quarter and fell by 240,000 on the previous year in June 2011. Employment in the private sector increased by 41,000 over the previous quarter and 264,000 on the previous year in June 2011.

The National Minimum Wage Bill 2019-21 was introduced by Paula Barker MP following the Private Members' Bills Ballot on 9 January 2020. First reading took place on 5 February 2020. The Bill's second reading was due to take place on 15 January 2021, but was cancelled following an Order of the House on 13 January 2021. We do not have a date for the rearranged Second Reading.
