• The wider ILO measure of unemployment was 2.57 million in the period June-August 2011, a rise of 114,000 from the last quarter. The number of unemployed people has not been higher since the summer of 1994.
• The number of people in employment (16 and over) fell by 178,000 over the last quarter to 29.10 million (June-August 2011).
