• The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance decreased by 32,600 between July and August 2013 to 1.40 million people aged 18 or over, the lowest level since February 2009.
• The ILO measure of unemployment was 2.49 million people in May-July 2013, down 24,000 from the previous quarter and down 105,000 from the previous year. The unemployment rate was 7.7%.
• The number of people in employment was 29.84 million in May-July 2013, up 80,000 from the previous quarter and up 275,000 on the previous year. The employment rate (the proportion of the population aged 16-64 in work) was 71.6%.
• The number of economically inactive people aged 16-64 was 8.96 million in May-July 2013, down 33,000 on the previous quarter and down 52,000 compared to the previous year.
