The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance decreased by 18,600 between August and September 2014, to 951,900 people aged 18 or over, the lowest level since August 2008.
The unemployment rate was 6.0% in June-August 2014. The ILO measure of unemployment was 1.97 million people, down 154,000 from the previous quarter and down 538,000 from the previous year. This is the largest annual fall since comparable records began in 1972.
The number of people in employment was 30.76 million in June-August 2014, up 46,000 from the previous quarter and up 736,000 from the previous year. The employment rate was 73.0%.
