Disabled access to historic and listed buildings

Ensuring disabled access to historic and listed buildings which are open to the public can present specific challenges for service providers where structural changes could undermine the character of the building.

This note explains the interaction of of duties imposed on service providers to ensure access for disabled people under the Equality Act 2010 with the role of English Heritage and planning authorities in ensuring that the character of these buildings is maintained.
