The EITI (previously the Extractive Industries Transparency Directive) was a DfID inspired proposal aimed at providing a forum for monitoring the activities of those companies which are most often accused of some of the worst aspects of overseas exploitation and harm to natural resources.
A key aspect of its work is the publication of all material oil, gas and mining payments paid by companies to governments and all material revenues received by governments from the companies to a wide audience in a publicly accessible, comprehensive and comprehensible manner.
