Amendments to the UK-US Mutual Defence Agreement
Parts of the UK-US Mutual Defence Agreement, which underpins nuclear cooperation between the two countries, will expire in December 2024.
The Government announced the outcome of the second stage of Sir John Holmes' review into military medals in July 2014. This now completes work into various retrospective medal campaigns. The government has stated that no further reviews of historic claims will now take place unless significant, new, evidence is produced that an injustice has occurred.

This note briefly summarises the review of the rules, principles and processes for medallic recognition of military campaigns conducted by Sir John Holmes for the Government. It also outlines the conclusions of the second stage of work which examined claims for the award of a number of retrospective medals. The Government has stated that no further reviews of historic claims will now take place unless significant new evidence is produced outlining that an injustice has occurred. The case for a National Defence Medal has been left open for further possible consideration.
