Women may soon be able to serve in combat roles in the Armed Forces. The Defence Secretary has launched a review of the policy that excludes women from ground close combat roles. It will report back by the end of 2014, a shift from the Government’s previously stated position to not review the policy before the end of operations in Afghanistan. Previous reviews were conducted in 2002 and 2010.
