Under the NHS Constitution for England, patients have a legal right to start consultant-led treatment within a maximum of 18 weeks from referral for non-urgent conditions.     Cancer: Waiting Times for Diagnosis and Treatment

    How long do patients wait for cancer diagnosis and treatment? This note outlines NHS performance trends relating to cancer testing, treatment and care. In 2014 there were 1.5m urgent GP referrals with suspected cancer. This is 53% higher than in 2010. 272,000 patients began treatment for cancer, up 12% on 2010. Of these, 129,000 had previously been urgently referred by their GP, up 25% on 2010.

The Bill seeks to make changes to a number of provisions in the Health and Social Care Act 2012 relating to: ministerial responsibility for the NHS, competition and procurement policy, and the limits set on NHS hospitals' private income. The Bill also includes measures intended to exempt the NHS from the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) Treaty.
