The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance decreased by 27,400 between April 2014 and May 2014, to 1.09 million people aged 18 or over, the lowest level since October 2008.
The unemployment rate was 6.6% in February-April 2014. The ILO measure of unemployment was 2.16 million people, down 161,000 from the previous quarter and down 347,000 from the previous year.
The number of people in employment was 30.54 million in February-April 2014, up 345,000 from the previous quarter and up 780,000 from the previous year. The employment rate was 72.9%.
