The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance decreased by 37,200 between July and August 2014, to 966,500 people aged 18 or over, the lowest level since August 2008.
The unemployment rate was 6.2% in May-July 2014. The ILO measure of unemployment was 2.02 million people, down 146,000 from the previous quarter and down 468,000 from the previous year.
The number of people in employment was 30.61 million in May-July 2014, up 74,000 from the previous quarter and up 774,000 from the previous year. The employment rate was 73.0%.
