There are stark differences between the economic activity of people aged 16 to 24 in full-time education and those not in full-time education.
In Q4 2013*, 3.03 million 16 to 24 year olds are in full-time education, 42% of all people in the age group. Of these 1.94 million are economically inactive, 813,000 are employed (this includes part-time work) and 280,000 are unemployed (looking for and available for work).
The remaining 4.17 million people aged 16 to 24 were not in any form of full-time education (although they may have been studying part-time). 2.87 million were in employment, 664,000 were economically inactive and 673,000 were unemployed.
1.03 million people aged 16 to 24 who are not in full-time education are also classed as NEET (not in education, employment or training), 14.4% of the age group. 467,000 of 16 to 24 year olds who are NEET are economically inactive and not in any form of education or training and 568,000 are unemployed and not in any form of education or training.
