Interactive dashboard showing data on school workforces in England, including pupil-teacher ratios, pupil-adult ratios, and retention.
This interactive dashboard allows you to view information on school workforces by constituency. It provides information on the number of teachers at each school, how they compare with the number of pupils (the “pupil teacher ratio”), and likewise for other school staff.
Please note all figures in the below relate to full-time equivalents, rather than headcounts. This data is based on the location of schools, rather than the location of school staff or pupils.
Use the drop-down menu below to select the constituency you’re interested in and view statistics.
We aim to make our data dashboards and downloads as accessible as possible. However, if you need this data in a different format from the versions provided on this page, please contact us on papers@parliament.uk and we may be able to provide an alternative.
Staff types are defined in Proposals on the School Support Staff Negotiating Body. Other school support staff includes roles such as matrons/nurses/medical staff, librarians, invigilators, pastoral support and attendance staff. All staff numbers refer to full-time equivalents, rather than headcount. Staff and pupil numbers are rounded to the nearest whole number. This data is based on the location of schools, rather than the location of school staff or pupils.
In a small number of cases, data is not available on particular schools. This typically means these schools are new, or have recently changed their name or academy status, making data linkage more complex. These schools have been excluded from relevant constituency and England calculations.
Data on staff numbers was sourced from Size of the school workforce – school level, pupil numbers from Pupil to teacher ratios – school level, and teacher turnover from Teacher turnover – school level. Schools were mapped to parliamentary constituencies using the Get Information about Schools tool and the ONS Postcode Directory.
We aim to update aspects of this dashboard in line with data releases from the Department for Education, but the data shown here may not be the latest available. MPs and their staff can contact the Commons Library with queries about updates.
