E-petitions: Suspending Brexit for a public inquiry; extending the transition period to delay negotiations

MPs will debate three petitions on Monday 5 October 2020 in Westminster Hall at 6pm. The first two call for a public inquiry to take place into the 2016 referendum on EU membership. One of these calls for Brexit to be deferred in the meantime. The third petition calls for the post-Brexit transition period to be deferred to allow more time for the UK-EU future relationship negotiations.

The Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill 2019-2021 was introduced in the House of Commons on 24 September 2020. It is due to have Second Reading on 5 October. It would introduce a power in the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 to authorise conduct by officials and agents of the security and intelligence services, law enforcement, and certain other public authorities, which would otherwise constitute criminality.
