    Spending of the Department for Education

    On 1 July 2019 there will be an Estimates Day debate on the spending of the Department for Education. The subject for this debate was selected by the Backbench Business Committee, following the publication of the 2019-20 Main Supply Estimates on 9 May 2019. The debate follows two applications to the Committee for debates on DFE spending: one from Robert Halfon MP (Conservative), chair of the Education Select Committee; James Frith MP (Labour), member of the Education Select Committee; Thelma Walker MP (Labour), member of the Education Select Committee; and Laura Smith MP (Labour); and another led by Anna Turley MP regarding spending on children’s services. This debate comes at a time when the Government has recently introduced a new funding formula for schools and follows a previous Estimates day debate on Education spending in February 2019.
